Why a second souq?

The souq was always about trade: things changing hands, a fair price, a good story behind an object. A lot of that now happens on phones, in group chats and on classifieds sites, and most of the advice out there is written for somewhere else.

The Second Souq is written for people in the UAE who buy, sell, donate and hunt for preloved things. We cover the practical side: where things can go when you clear out, how to avoid getting scammed, how to look after what you own so it lasts, and where to find good secondhand shops across the Emirates.

Editorial standards

• Sourced. Facts, figures, laws and quotes are linked to where they come from: official UAE sources where they exist, then reputable news outlets and the organisations themselves.
• Written for the UAE. Prices are in dirhams, rules are UAE rules, and places are places you can actually visit here.
• Practical first. Each guide answers the question in its title, then gives the detail behind it.
• Kept current. When something changes, we update the guide and show the date it was updated.

If something is out of date or wrong, we want to know, and we will correct it.
